Swiss Re is joining forces with technology leader IBM to co-host a worldwide hackathon event. The event will take place in two major hubs, New York City and Bangalore. Talented designers and developers who have a passion for developing user based apps, data science, and cognitive technology are all invited to participate and compete for a grand prize money for the 1st place INR 300,000! , 2nd place INR 200,000 and 3rd place INR 100,000

The catch: Hackers will have the opportunity to work with IBM's own cloud platform, IBM Bluemix, and apps developed must utilize at least one cognitive component available in Blue mix.

IBM Bluemix is a cloud platform as a service (PaaS) developed by IBM. It supports several programming languages and services as well as integrated DevOps to build, run, deploy and manage applications on the cloud. Bluemix is based on Cloud Foundry open technology and runs on SoftLayer infrastructure.
Apps developed by hackathon participants must utilize at least one cognitive component available in Blue mix.
IBM will offer a free virtual training session on bluemix prior to the event. Please consider attending!

Hacker participants will be given a common project theme to guide the app design and development over the weekend. Projects will be judged based on a common judging criteria. (For judging criteria please see "Hackathon Rules")
The theme for the app is "My personal risk advisor." It must incorporate at least one cognitive component in the IBM Bluemix suite and should be a working app. The purpose of the app is to enable individuals or small business owners to assess their total risk and learn about various product offerings. Teams have the flexibility to decide which portions of the app they will develop most in depth to present to the judging panel.
Certain data sources will be made available for participants in the following key risk categories:

Note: Ownership of the apps developed will remain with the development teams.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS
Participants must have an educational background in computer or data science. It's also advised that participants have experience working as a technical designer or developer. Participation is limited to the first 100 qualified registered participants. Sign up now! Registration closes January 20th.
The Bangalore Hackathon will take place on January 30th and 31st at Work Bench Projects. The facility will be overnight till Sunday 31st January 2016. Developers can choose to code overnight, there will arrangement made for people to take rest in the facility in case they choose to do so. Judging will begin on Sunday at 1pm. Winners will be awarded by 6pm on Sunday.
Throughout the event, participants will have the opportunity to work alongside world class developers, mingle with Swiss Re and IBM employees, learn about the use of IBM Bluemix and present their app to company executives.
